After protesting four years, Democrats finally getting taste of their own medicine

After four years of protests and resistance, Democrats are now getting a taste of their own medicine.

And they don’t like it.

Because of President Trump’s complaints, there will always be lingering doubt in much of the country over whether Joe Biden’s election was legit, no matter what happens in this monumental political week.

President Trump has succeeded in sowing doubts about the 2020 election, and Biden has been tainted by it.

Millions of die-hard Trump followers around the country will always believe that the election was stolen from them, and those feelings will fuel Republicans’ actions for the next four years, potentially even leading to a GOP takeover of the House in two years.

Despite no evidence that he actually won the election, Trump has succeeded in getting more than a hundred members of Congress to back his plan to contest the results on Wednesday. Even when confronted with the tape recording of Trump asking Georgia GOP officials to “find” the votes to put him over the top, Republicans are sticking with Trump.

And that should be no surprise to Democrats.

For four years, Democrats led by Barack and Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton rained on Trump’s parade, starting with the steely looks at the inauguration and making fun of the small crowds, the size of his hands and the way he drinks water.

From the very beginning Democrats sought to make Trump an illegitimate president — ranging from the so-called “resistance” to the “not my president” bumper stickers.

That resistance morphed into the Russia collusion investigation and later into the impeachment movement. Democrats still couldn’t take Trump down but they harassed Trump so much that he was consumed by the controversies.

Trump has taken up so much of the political oxygen over the last four years that it’s hard to imagine not having him to kick around or prop up.

But Trump critics and the cable networks better get used to it — the Trump era for now is coming to a close, and stay tuned for 2024.

The question is whether it will go out with a bang or a whimper.

This is a historic political week that could end with Democrats controlling everything — the House, the White House and the Senate, if the Democrats win the Georgia Senate runoff races.

If that happens, Democrats will work to reverse everything Trump did, and then some.

Liberal judicial appointees will soar through the Senate and even divisive figures like Sen. Elizabeth Warren could be appointed to a top Biden administration job and confirmed by the Democratic-led Senate.

The big week started on Sunday with a near miss — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was narrowly re-elected by the House with just a few votes to spare.

Progressive Democrats and some moderates could have made a stand and held out their support for the ancient 80-year-old leader but it looks like this will be Pelosi’s last term anyway.
