Joe Biden keys in on Pennsylvania, set to ‘barnstorm’ swing state ahead of Election Day
Joe Biden in the closing days ahead of Election Day is focusing on the key Rust Belt states that propelled President Trump to victory four years ago.
Biden on Sunday rallied voters in Pennsylvania, a pivotal battleground in Tuesday’s election.
“My message is simple — Pennsylvania is critical in this election,” Biden told supporters in Philadelphia on Sunday.
Trump in 2016 won the swing state by about 40,000 votes, but polls show Biden ahead of the president in the in the race to secure its 20 electoral votes.
Trump is “terrified of what will happen” if “the people of Pennsylvania get to have their say,” the former vice president said.
During a “souls to the polls” event, Biden blasted Trump for his handling of the coronavirus, which has led to 230,000 deaths and 9.1 million cases in the U.S. — the most recorded deaths and cases in the world.
“Every single day we’re seeing race-based disparities in every aspect of this virus,” Biden said, adding that Trump’s handling of the coronavirus was “almost criminal” and the pandemic was a “mass casualty event in the Black community.”
The Biden campaign said that Biden, his wife Jill, vice presidential running mate Sen. Kamala Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff are set to “barnstorm Pennsylvania and fan out across all four corners of the state” on Monday.
Biden also on Monday is scheduled to travel to Ohio, another key battleground.
During an online Soul of the Nation Gospel concert Sunday night, Biden supporters reinforced the importance of turning out to vote — and recruiting families and friends to vote.
“Our country is at a historic inflection point, one that will determine our moral direction for years to come, so we need your faith, your hope, your love more than ever,” Harris said during the online event. “And we need you to vote because in this election everything is at stake.
“And we need you to turn out like you have never voted before,” she added. “Because this is the election of our lives.”
Former President Barack Obama has been campaigning for Biden in recent weeks. Obama at the online concert Sunday night urged supporters on Tuesday to “turn up and turn out.”
“My friend and brother Joe Biden calls this election a ‘battle for the soul of our nation.’ That’s why I’m fighting so hard for him,” Obama said. “He’s more than up to the task.”
