Donald Trump on a battleground blitz ahead of Election Day: ‘Join the red wave’
President Trump two days ahead of Election Day went on an 11th hour battleground blitz, holding rallies in five key states as he made a final push to court voters to show up for him on Tuesday.
Trump on Sunday was set to speak to large crowds in Iowa, Michigan, Georgia, North Carolina and Florida — before seven rallies on Monday’s Election Day eve. The president also held four rallies in Pennsylvania on Saturday.
Trump in Iowa on Sunday said there will be a “red wave” on Election Day.
“Two days from now, we are going to win Iowa, and we are going to win Wisconsin. And we are going to win four more years in that very beautiful White House,” Trump said as his fans chanted “Four more years.”
The president encouraged his supporters to “get every last person you know, get them to the voting booth in record numbers.”
“Join the red wave,” he said. “We have a giant red wave that’s formed. It’s formed.”
He continued to tell rally goers that next year will be a great economic year as the country battles the coronavirus.
“But if (Joe) Biden and (Kamala) Harris, the radical left, gain power, they will crash the economy,” Trump said.
The president also called Biden “corrupt” and brought up his son Hunter’s business dealings.
At a Michigan rally, Trump criticized Gov. Gretchen Whitmer — who was the target of an alleged kidnapping plot over the state’s coronavirus restrictions.
“This place was a mess four years ago, and frankly, if your governor opened up your state … which she has to do,” the president said.
Trump kept hammering mail-in ballots, and said voters should know the winner on Tuesday night.
“So it’s not November 3rd?” Trump said. “It’s going to be much later than that. … We should know the result of the election on November 3rd.”
Trump campaign senior adviser Jason Miller said on Sunday that Democrats will try to “steal” the election after Tuesday. He said Trump should be declared the winner on Tuesday night, even if all the votes have not been counted yet.
“We believe that we’ll be over 290 electoral votes on election night,” Miller said. “So no matter what they try to do, what kind of hijinks or lawsuits or whatever kind of nonsense they try to pull off, we’re still going to have enough electoral votes to get President Trump re-elected.”
Battleground states in the Midwest are expected to be slow to report results. These states do not start processing mail-in ballots until Election Day, so their results won’t be in until after Tuesday.
Miller predicted that Trump will again win all of the Sun Belt states that he won in 2016.
“We feel very good about where we’re going,” Miller said. “And the fact of the matter is, is that Joe Biden does not excite his base. So when you take the lack of enthusiasm for Joe Biden and the media and Democratic suppression for their voters on Election Day, we think that our turnout will deliver President Trump a victory.”
