Biden on Election Day eve blasts Trump for coronavirus response

Joe Biden in his closing message to voters ahead of Election Day zeroed in on President Trump’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic, telling supporters on Monday that “it’s time for Donald Trump to pack his bags and go home.”

Biden is focusing on the key Rust Belt region in the final days before the election, holding drive-in rallies in the critical swing states of Ohio and Pennsylvania on Election Day eve.

“Tomorrow, we have an opportunity to put an end to a presidency that has divided this nation,” Biden said in Cleveland. “Tomorrow, we can put an end to a president who has failed to protect this nation.

“Tomorrow, we can put an end to a president who has fanned the flames of hate all across this country,” he told supporters.

Trump won Ohio by 8 points in 2016, but recent polls show Biden narrowly ahead there.

“My message is simple: The power to change the country is in your hands,” the former vice president said in Cleveland. “I don’t care how much Donald Trump tries, there is nothing he’s going to do to stop the people in this nation from voting.”

“I believe the message is going to be loud and clear: It’s time for Donald Trump to pack his bags and go home,” Biden later added. “We’re done. We’re done with the chaos. We’re done with the tweets, the anger, the hate, the failures.”

On Day One as president, Biden would quickly act to get the coronavirus pandemic under control, he said. That plan would include wearing masks, social distancing, testing and tracing, he said.

“Imagine where we’d be if this president from the beginning had just worn a mask instead of mocked wearing a mask,” Biden said. “I can tell you this: We wouldn’t have 9 million confirmed COVID cases in this nation. We wouldn’t have 230,000 deaths. We wouldn’t be seeing those new record number of cases we’re seeing every single day right now.”

The U.S. has recorded about 100,000 cases in recent daily reports.

Trump late Sunday night threatened to fire Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

“I got a better idea: Elect me, and I’m going to hire Dr. Fauci, and we’re going to fire Donald Trump,” Biden said.

Trump has “surrendered” when it comes to battling the coronavirus pandemic, Biden added.

“I’m never going to raise the white flag,” Biden said. “We’re going to beat this virus. We’re going to get it under control, I promise you. The first step to beating the virus is beating Donald Trump.”
