GOLF
Sophomore Charlie Mansfield notched a team-high 15 points in his first career match, powering Newton North to a 79-53 victory over Bay State Conference rival Brookline. … Ryan Keyes shot a 34, while Colby Sanville chipped in with a 35 as Wellesley edged Needham, 121-115.
Nick Mercer shot an even par to lead Arlington Catholic to a 186-161 win over St. Mary’s in the Catholic Central League.
Nolan Rexford fired a 40 as Shawsheen coasted to a 125-37 win over Nashoba Tech in the Commonwealth Athletic Conference.
Senior Nolan Norton led Franklin (1-0) to a 149-168 win over Attleboro by shooting 1-over 36, while Brian Sandham added a 37 in the Hockomock League.
In the Tri-Valley League, medalist James Davignon shot a 36 as Medfield (1-2) took down Millis, 230-273.
Senior captains Aidan O’Flynn and Rowan Silva each carded scores of 21, as Ipswich picked up its second win of the season, 98-83, over Amesbury in a Cape Ann League tilt…Cael Kohlan led all players with 32 points as Triton (1-0) opened their season with a 149-105 triumph over Rockport (2-2).
Austin Ryan and Joey Donovan both hit a 43 as Scituate (4-0) defeated North Quincy, 268-319, in Patriot League action. … Jake Wilson shot a 39 to lift Hingham past Marshfield, 241-263. … Brendan McCabe shot a 41, while Luke Gibson and Luke Merlan tallied a 42 as Pembroke (3-1) defeated Quincy, 254-271.
Keegan Humason led the way with 21 points, shooting a 42 in a 72-58 win for Dartmouth (1-2) over Southeast Conference opponent Durfee. … Kyle Wilcox shot a 39, followed by teammate Pat Concannon with a 41 as Bridgewater-Raynham defeated West Bridgewater, 86-61.
Sophomore Eleanor Parkerson led Boston Latin (3-4) with 13 points in a 62-32 victory over Dual County League foe Cambridge.
Andrew Curran and Phil Sughure both shot 1-under 34 with two birdies each as Winchester won 53-19 over Middlesex opponent Woburn.
Sam Hood was the medalist with a 36, while Colin Norkavicius added a 41 as Sandwich beat Dennis-Yarmouth, 252-274.
BOYS SOCCER
Sophomore Joe Woodward scored twice in his first varsity game while Tyler Archibald and Jeremy Perez each scored to lift Shawsheen (1-0) to a 4-2 win over Commonwealth Athletic Conference opponent Greater Lowell.
GIRLS SOCCER
Aliza Som, Emily Hass and Diana Mix each netted a goal, while Jillian McIssac came away with five saves in net, propelling Greater Lowell to a season-opening 3-1 victory over Shawsheen in the Commonwealth Athletic Conference.
FIELD HOCKEY
Alyssa Boucher and Mary Daley each potted a pair of goals, as Bishop Feehan coasted by St. Mary’s (Lynn), 8-2, in the Catholic Central League.
Toni Lerardi tallied both goals as Silver Lake (1-0) outlasted Whitman-Hanson, 2-1, in Patriot League play.
CLASS NOTES
UMass-Dartmouth senior defensive back Jacob Burkhead has been named as one of a record 199 semifinalists from across all levels of both NCAA and NAIA play for the 2020 National Football Foundation William V. Campbell Trophy® Presented By Mazda, which is considered to be the “Academic Heisman”.
A standout at Plymouth North, Burkhead is the only two-time CoSIDA Academic All-America honoree in school history and has earned a pair of all-Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference first-team accolades for his performance on the field. A Political Science major at the University, Burkhead has achieved a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average during his matriculation and has been named to the Chancellor’s List six times while earning a spot on the MASCAC Fall All-Academic team on three occasions.
