Massachusetts man accused of breaking into Charlie Baker’s home

A 59-year-old Danvers man is accused of breaking into Gov. Charlie Baker’s Swampscott house in the middle of the day last week, while the governor’s wife and daughter were home.

Lane Forman apparently broke into the home — as Baker’s state police security detail was parked outside — by opening an unlocked door that led to the kitchen, according to WBZ and court records identifying Forman as the suspect.

Forman left behind a letter for the governor, WBZ added.

The incident happened while first lady Lauren Baker and her daughter were home.

A spokeswoman for the Essex District Attorney’s Office said Forman was arraigned last Wednesday for breaking and entering in the daytime. Forman pleaded not guilty, and bail was set at $5,000.

He was ordered to stay away from Baker and his family, and a judge ordered Forman to undergo a competency evaluation.

The judge’s order included wearing a GPS — with the governor’s house and Monument Avenue as exclusion zones.

Forman’s next court date is Nov. 4.

Baker’s office referred comment to Massachusetts State Police.

A state police spokesman said in a statement, “For security reasons, the Massachusetts State Police do not release details about executive protection operations.”

This incident comes in the wake of another man being ordered to stay away from the governor’s Swampscott home.

Domingos DaRosa, a Roxbury activist who’s part of a group pushing for more action to clean up the “Methadone Mile” stretch of the South End, is now forbidden from going within 100 yards of Baker’s house on Monument Avenue after he put used syringes in front of Baker’s house.

According to the WBZ report about Forman breaking in last week, troopers asked him why he was at the governor’s home. Forman allegedly told troopers, “Don’t (expletive) with me, Charlie told me to drop this off.”

Protesters during the last several months have rallied outside Baker’s home over the state’s shutdown orders amid the coronavirus pandemic.
