Charlie Baker bobblehead to raise money for PPE for healthcare workers

Gov. Charlie Baker’s latest national nod will leave his head shaking … and shaking.

The governor’s response to the coronavirus pandemic has earned him a spot in the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum, where the organization announced it will use his likeness to raise money for personal-protective equipment.

The Republican governor has earned approval from an overwhelming majority of voters, with an 81% approval rating for his handling of the pandemic locally, according to a recent MassINC poll. In the poll, 77% of voters held a favorable view of Baker overall.

The organization will donate $5 from every Baker Bobblehead sold to the Protect The Heroes fund in support of the 100 Million Mask Challenge. Since early April, the sales of bobbleheads featuring Dr. Anthony Fauci, Dr. Deborah Birx and others have raised more than $275,000 for the Protect the Heroes fund to provide PPE to the nation’s health care workers.

Baker’s office said he was “flattered.”

“During these unprecedented times, we want to continue to raise funds for an amazing cause while putting a smile on people’s faces with bobbleheads,” National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum co-founder and CEO Phil Sklar said in a statement.

The bobblehead features Baker as he’s been seen many times throughout the pandemic: wearing a blue shirt, light blue tie and standing at a podium. The Massachusetts seal is on the front of the podium and his name is affixed to the base.

The bobblehead figures can be purchased online for $25 each and will ship in January.
