Cam Newton: Patriots veteran Julian Edelman ‘still a dominant player’
Patriots quarterback Cam Newton issued a warning: Julian Edelman was quiet last week, but don’t sleep on the Super Bowl LIII MVP as they take on Kansas City.
“Julian Edelman is still a dominant player in this league,” Newton said during a Zoom press conference Thursday evening.
Newton and Edelman had an impressive connection in the team’s last major challenge: Edelman caught eight passes from Newton in the Patriots’ 35-30 loss against the Seahawks in Week 2.
Anyone who watched the Kansas City’s Monday night thrashing of the Baltimore Ravens’ running offense can imagine how critical a balanced offense could be come Sunday.
Newton said he and Edelman are still building a connection, and praised the 34-year-old receiver’s work ethic and talent.
“That’s still a person that I admire from afar. And even up close. For him to have that work ethic and for people to know what to expect from him day in and day out, he set that bar extremely high and he lives up to it each and every day,” he said.
The Patriots face Kansas City at 4:25 p.m. Sunday.
