Braintree, Norfolk sheriff team up to offer remote learning center for students
Norfolk County Sheriff Jerry P. McDermott and the town of Braintree are teaming up to provide a “safe and supervised” space for students in the era of remote learning amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“The remote learning center will house up to 10 children per day and allow parents who cannot work from home the opportunity to drop their child off to a safe and supervised location for learning,” McDermott said in a press release announcing the new center.
The space was created in collaboration with the town of Braintree and provide opportunities to do classwork remotely as well as space for after-school activities for students across Norfolk County, according to the sheriff’s office.
The center, located at the Norfolk County Sheriff’s Office Public Safety Complex at 2015 Washington St. in Braintree, will provide Wi-Fi connections, staff to supervise at all times, organized activities outside during breaks, and regular cleaning and sanitizing of the space.
Children will also be able to take part in an after-school adventure program that will focus on team-building and ropes-based activities in order for them to get physical exercise and allow them to interact with their peers and learn critical social skills in a safe and social-distanced way.
Group activities will take place outside as much as possible to reduce the risk of sickness, the sheriff’s office said.
