The Revolution acquire attacking midfielder Lee Nguyen

The New England Revolution on Tuesday traded for another playmaking midfielder to help fuel the team’s second half run.

The Revolution acquired Lee Nguyen from Inter Miami CF in exchange for the team’s natural fourth-round selection in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft and up to $50,000 in general allocation money.

Revs sporting director and head coach Bruce Arena has been systematically adding pieces to address the loss of dynamic midfielder Carles Gil, who underwent Achilles tendon surgery on Aug. 4. The Revolution acquired midfielders Kekuta Manneh and Tommy McNamara in separate trades on Aug. 17.

Nguyen, who will perform the role of an attacking midfielder, is a nine-year MLS veteran who spent his first six seasons (2012-2017) with the Revolution. Nguyen rejoins the club after featuring with LAFC and Miami CF.

Nguyen, 33, played in 191 games in New England with 185 starts and scored 51 goals with 49 assists. Nguyen was capped nine times by the U.S. Men’s National Team.

“His ability as both a playmaker and goal scorer will be a compliment to our roster,” said Arena.
