Red Sox lefty Eduardo Rodriguez ‘basically hasn’t done much of anything’ due to coronavirus complications
Red Sox left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez “basically hasn’t done much of anything” for two months due to heart complications from the coronavirus, according to Red Sox manager Ron Roenicke.
The skipper said on Friday that Rodriguez has barely been able to do any physical activity and has been limited to his house in that time.
He was only just now cleared to begin walking again.
“But not the stress walks, not the elevated treadmill walks,” Roenicke said. “And hopefully in a couple weeks they’ll progress to that… It’s still a slower process to build himself back up… And they’re hoping that his offseason will be normal and he’ll be able to build himself up for next year.”
Roenicke thinks Rodriguez will be ready to go for spring training in 2021, but there’s no way to predict how he’ll come back from the case of myocarditis that has been said to be somewhat common with COVID-19 among healthy, young adults.
“He was concerned, as he should be, with what’s been going on,” Roenicke said.
It’s obviously a scary situation for Rodriguez and the Red Sox as they try to project next year’s rotation, which will also star the year without Chris Sale as he finishes his recovery from Tommy John surgery.
