Lynn man charged in shooting of store clerk
A Lynn man already in custody on unrelated charges was arrested on Friday in connection with a shooting last month that left a Roxbury convenience store clerk clinging to life, Boston police said.
Stephon Samuel, 25, was arrested at the Plymouth County House of Correction in connection with the July 14 shooting of Tanjim Siyam at the M&R Store on Shawmut Avenue, police said.
Officers responding to a 9:13 p.m. radio call about a person who had been shot arrived to find the 21-year-old clerk suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds, police said. The victim was rushed to Boston Medical Center, where he remains in a coma, according to a friend.
On Friday, Boston police obtained an arrest warrant for Samuel after an investigation by the BPD homicide and forensic units in conjunction with the Brockton Police Department and the FBI Boston Violent Crimes Task Force.
Samuel is charged with armed robbery by means of a firearm, armed assault with intent to murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and armed career criminal.
Siyam recently moved to the U.S. from Bangladesh and began working at the store five months ago, according to his friend Humayun Morshed. He gave the robber cash and cigarettes, but the suspect took him into a back room and shot him in the head.
Mayor Martin Walsh called the shooting a “brutal and cold-blooded act of violence.”
The Boston Convenience Store Owners Association has launched a GoFundMe page for Siyam, who moved to Boston alone, leaving his parents and siblings behind, with the dream of getting an education.
