Pair of brothers charged with murder in Boston park double shooting

A pair of brothers are behind bars, facing charges of murdering one man and wounding a woman in a double shooting last month at a park in Boston.

Jerry Pierre-Louis, 21, of Mattapan, and his younger brother Vierry Pierre-Louis, 18, of Randolph, were arrested Tuesday and charged with murder in the May 19 death of 26-year-old Dorchester man Israel Mayhew.

Mayhew was fatally wounded in the shooting at 9:40 p.m. at the Francis D. Martini Memorial Shell Park in Hyde Park. A woman in her early 20s, who hasn’t been publicly identified, also suffered gunshot wounds, but is expected to survive.

According to photos from the scene, the shooting occurred near basketball courts at the park. Authorities at the time said one victim was in the park and another was on a roadway.

“There is no place for this kind of violence in our communities and my office has made a solemn vow to hold those who commit violence accountable for their actions,’’ Suffolk District Attorney Rachael Rollins said in a news release Tuesday evening. “If you carry an illegal firearm, commit an act of violence, or risk the lives and safety of others we will hold you accountable and you will be removed from the community.”

The two brothers face charges of murder, assault with intent to murder and other lesser related crimes, Rollins’ release said. The Pierre-Louises are expected to be arraigned virtually on Wednesday on these charges.

State police are taking the lead on the investigation because it occurred on state property; Rollins thanked them and Boston police, who are assisting. The Martini Shell Park is part of the Neponset River reservation, operated by the Department of Conservation & Recreation.
