FBI seeking two men in burning of BPD cruiser during last week’s unrest

The FBI and Boston authorities are seeking two men who they believe may have information regarding the torching of a Boston Police Department cruiser in the chaos following a protest May 31 near Downtown Crossing.

Video and photographs show one man, believed to be a “white or Hispanic male” between 5 feet, 8 inches and 6 feet tall with a white hoodie and red bandanna, and a “Hispanic male” the same height wearing black clothing posing near the cruiser already ablaze, the FBI states in a wanted poster.

Boston Police responded at approximately 9:25 p.m. that Sunday to a call for assistance in the aftermath of the George Floyd protests and parked their cruiser near Beantown Pub and Suffolk University. Moments later, several individuals vandalized the cruiser and set it on fire.

The men were seen around the intersection of Tremont and Bromfield streets with the FBI adding “these individuals may have information relevant to the ongoing investigation into the vandalism and arson of a Boston Police Department cruiser.”

The unrest, which erupted after a peaceful protest that Sunday afternoon, resulted in looting and 53 arrests. Seven Boston police officers were transported to the hospital, and 21 total cruisers were damaged.

The FBI has asked for tips at 857-386-2000, or at tips.fbi.gov.
