Boston protests continue in Roxbury on Friday

Hundreds of protestors filled up the large triangular intersection in front of the police station in Roxbury, continuing to advocate for change following several high-profile deaths of black people at the hands of cops.

This demonstration in Roxbury’s Nubian Square neighborhood went off peacefully, with protestors focusing on the death of Breonna Taylor, a black woman from Louisville who was shot to death March 13 by police in a “no-knock” raid of her home during the night as part of a drug investigation. Friday would have been her 27th birthday.

Her death, and, more prominently, the death of black Minneapolis man George Floyd, have prompted widespread protests around the country for the past week.

The protests at times have turned violent across the country, but this one — and most of those in the Boston area, with the exception of a chaotic Sunday night of looting downtown — remained peaceful, including poetry readings and 15 minutes during which demonstrators, at the behest of the organizers, talked to the people around them about something that shocked them lately.
