Massachusetts coronavirus numbers: 122 deaths and 7,738 cases

Thirty-three more people in Massachusetts have died from coronavirus, state health officials reported on Wednesday, the second straight day of 33 deaths in the Bay State from the highly contagious disease.

The state Department of Public Health also announced 1,118 new cases of coronavirus since Tuesday, bringing the state’s total confirmed cases to 7,738.

The 33 new coronavirus-linked deaths bring the state total to 122.

A man in his 30s with pre-existing conditions was among the new deaths. He’s the youngest person to die in Massachusetts from the virus, according to the state’s reported deaths.

The other 32 new deaths ranged from those in their 50s to a woman in her 100s. Sixteen of those 32 people had pre-existing conditions, DPH reported. State officials said they do not know if the other 16 people had pre-existing conditions.

In Connecticut, a 7-week-old girl who died had coronavirus, likely one of the youngest lives lost anywhere due to complications related to COVID-19, Gov. Ned Lamont tweeted.

In Massachusetts, Suffolk County has the most confirmed cases with 1,624, followed by Middlesex County with 1,582.

At least 682 people in Massachusetts have been hospitalized for coronavirus, and 2,340 people have not been hospitalized. The remaining cases — 4,716 — are under investigation.

Of the coronavirus confirmed cases in Massachusetts are eight priests in the Archdiocese of Boston. Their condition is being closely monitored, the cardinal’s office told the Herald.

The total number of tests in Massachusetts went up to 51,738 on Wednesday, an increase of 4,803 from the day before.

More than 210,000 people in the U.S. have tested positive for coronavirus — the most confirmed cases in the world. More than 4,700 people have died in the U.S.

New York is the nation’s top coronavirus hotspot with 1,941 deaths and 83,948 confirmed cases.

Worldwide, more than 925,000 cases have been confirmed and more than 46,000 deaths have been recorded. More than 190,000 people around the globe have recovered.
