Lowell home invasion suspect faces dangerousness hearing

A 22-year-old man arrested in connection with an armed home invasion is due in Lowell District Court next week for a hearing to determine whether he is too dangerous to be released, according to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.

Antwon Tyreik Almeida was arrested at his Lowell home shortly after 10 p.m. on Monday on a warrant charging him with home invasion, armed assault in a dwelling with a firearm, armed and masked robbery, and threat to commit a crime, authorities said.

Almeida pleaded not guilty at his arraignment on Tuesday in Lowell District Court, and Judge Patrick Malone ordered him held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing at 2 p.m. next Monday.

Lowell police responded to the home invasion on Feb. 25 at about 10 p.m., Lowell police Capt. James J. Hodgdon said.

The victim told officers that two men entered the apartment and demanded money, Hodgdon said. One of them had a gun, he said.

The victim was duct taped, the captain said, and the suspects stole cash and other property in the apartment.

Lowell police detectives investigated the incident and obtained a warrant for Almeida’s arrest, Hodgdon said.

On Monday, detectives arrested him without incident with the help of the Lowell Police Department’s Gang Unit and the North Eastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council SWAT team.
