Worker dies after chemical exposure at Buffalo Wild Wings in Burlington

A worker at Buffalo Wild Wings in Burlington is dead after being exposed to a “strong cleaning agent” Thursday night, according to the Burlington Fire Department

Interim Chief Michael Patterson said the BFD responded to a serious hazardous material incident at the restaurant following a 5:36 p.m. call for a report of a chemical reaction in the kitchen area. Firefighters evacuated the building and a Tier 1 hazardous material response was initiated.

A male employee was taken to Leahy Hospital in serious condition, and later died. Several other people checked themselves into the hospital as a result of the incident, the BFD said.

The cause of the incident is under investigation. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has been notified of the incident.
