Athletes at Norwell, Fenway ink letters of intent
For a trio of Norwell athletes, Wednesday afternoon provided every reason to celebrate.
Surrounded by classmates, parents, coaches, and school administrators, Norwell’s Kristin Vierra, Grace Magee, and Kylee Horlbeck signed National Letters of Intent to continue their athletic careers come fall 2020.
Vierra, a star member of the Clippers’ girls soccer team, cemented her decision to continue her athletic and academic career at Wake Forest. The senior forward was the focal point of Norwell’s run to the Div. 3 State Title a season ago and entered her senior season with 72 career goals.
“I am super excited to finally make it official,” Vierra said. “I think Wake (Forest) is a great place to continue my soccer career and academic career. It’s great to be able to sign with (Grace and Kylee).”
Magee has been a standout diver and will continue as member of the UMass Amherst team. Magee plans to study computer science. Over the last three seasons Horlbeck has been one of the top lacrosse players across the south shore, earning her a scholarship to St. Anselm’s.
Fenway girls basketball standout Janyah Gulley inked her commitment to Caldwell University, signing her NLI in front of a full house of friends and family.
Gulley, who decided on Caldwell toward the end of the summer, has become a role model for her teammates and fellow classmates.
“She is a captain who brings everyone together,” Fenway coach John Rice said. “She keeps the younger players motivated and focused. She leads by example. She is a warrior on the court. Its a true testament to her academic and athletic performance.”
Gulley expressed both a sense of celebration and relief that pen had finally hit paper.
“That whole process was so much stress off of me,” Gulley said. “Now I can finally say to myself, ‘Yes, that’s the school I’m going to.’ I am just so happy. This is the best day of my life.”
