Media, Democrats unhinged over Trump
Don’t let the truth get in the way of a good story.
That line, which brings a chuckle, is attributed to Mark Twain. It was picked up and used by reporters for years.
They used it jokingly and cynically when referring to potential scoops that were killed by editors when they turned out to be based on unsubstantiated or phony sources.
Now, led by the once respected New York Times, the line has become the cornerstone for a long string of deceitful anti-Donald Trump stories designed to wreck his presidency and destroy the man.
The paper, once the flagship of American journalism, should consider reworking its motto to read, “All the News That’s Fit to Print, If True.”
Clearly, we are in the era of “If true” journalism and politics, which is led by the Times and Washington Post, and followed by the Boston Globe. They are the Bermuda Triangle of American journalism, where truth about Trump disappears.
The latest example is the furor over the generally innocuous July phone call conversation Trump held with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy. As another media hyped, anti-Trump “bombshell” it was a dud, as was Russian collusion and the Mueller Report.
But that has done nothing to stop the hysterical Democrat activists of the media, posing as reporters and partnering with the Democratic Party, from attempting to bring Trump down, so hateful are they of Trump
Hate does strange things to people, particularly when it is coupled with hysteria. They can bring about strange outcomes.
While Trump is the target, the main casualty of impeachment is not going to be the president. It is going to be Joe Biden along with Hunter Biden, his rich and troubled son.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi bowed to left wing House zealots and endorsed impeachment based on a phone conversation with Zelenskyy that, if true, was a “betrayal” of his oath of office and the American people.
It did not matter that she had not heard the conversation or seen a transcript. Nor does it matter that Ukrainian President Zelenskyy said at a press conference with Trump that he was not pressured to initiate any investigation.
Nothing mattered because Democrats and the media were already clamoring for impeachment based on a dishonest and malicious “if true” scenario.
For instance, Charles Blow, a columnist for the Times, who calls Trump “vile,” wrote before the phone call was made public, that Trump “demanded” Zelenskyy investigate Hunter Biden. And that “if true, is a shocking example of a president who feels invincible and unrestrained.”
Utah Republican Mitt Romney, who also had not seen or heard the phone conversation, said the allegations against Trump “were serious” and “if true,” should lead to impeachment.
Julian Castro, a Democrat presidential candidate, agreed that “if true” Trump should be impeached.
U.S. Rep. Steve Lynch of South Boston, who also had not seen or heard the conversation, said of the dire media accounts that, “if fully substantiated will be of momentous consequences.”
Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who also had not seen a transcript accused Trump of “illegal behavior” and said he should be impeached “right now.”
The media and the Democrats have become dangerously unhinged.
Even the once objective Associated Press has succumbed to the anti-Trump hysteria. Last week the AP rewrote a Washington Post story based anonymous sources about Trump’s “illegal” behavior in making the call, without even knowing what he said.
Buried in the AP story was the sentence, “The Associated Press has not confirmed the report.”
If the AP could not confirm the story, why was it is it running it?
While the Pelosi Democrats in the House want to impeach Trump over a series of “if true” allegations, or on the blatant lies of Rep. Adam Schiff, that is their prerogative.
Before they do, though, they should compare Trump’s conversation with Zelenskyy to the video of Joe Biden bragging about threatening the Ukrainians with withholding $1 billion in U.S. loan guarantees unless they fired a prosecutor investigating Hunter Biden’s questionable Ukrainian business deals
In 2018, Joe Biden — Quid Pro Joe — preened over how in Kiev he used the weight of his office and the Obama administration to get the prosecutor dumped. “I said, ‘We’re leaving in six hours. If the prosecutor is not fired, you’re not getting the money.’ Well, son of a (expletive), he got fired.”
Ukraine got the money, Joe Biden walked, Hunter Biden got rich and Trump got the shaft.
