Get dressed for fall fun
This time of the season always calls for a girls’ fall outing, doesn’t it? From Cambridge’s world-class boating races (complete with celebrations every which way) to hippie throwback Halloween performance-slash-bashes, the next couple of weeks’ events are practically begging you to grab a couple of friends and let loose a little. Here are some not to miss.
What: The 55th Head of the Charles Regatta
When: This weekend
Where: 2 Gerrys Landing Road, Cambridge, and basically all around Harvard and the Charles River, regattacentral.com.
Why: More rowers in every direction than you can shake an oar at.
What to wear: Your preppiest garb. (V-necks and capris embroidered with sailboats, anyone?)
What not to miss: Make it a staycation (so you don’t need to fight traffic home) by booking a room at a nearby boutique hotel like The Whitney (whitneyhotelboston.com), a new spot in a luxe brick townhouse where you can curl up near the wood fireplace after the chilly outdoor festivities.
What: The B-52s Halloween Bash
When: Oct. 31, 6:30 p.m.
Where: Encore Boston Harbor, 1 Broadway, Everett, 857-770-7000, encorebostonharbor.com.
Why: 20 million albums worldwide can’t be wrong.
What to wear: Do it up right with a full-blown, trippy ’60s getup.
What not to miss: An easy ride on the resort’s free ferry, straight there and back from downtown Boston.
What: The Harvest Fairgrounds Menu at Harvest Restaurant
When: Saturdays and Sundays, now through mid-November
Where: Harvest, 44 Brattle St., Cambridge, 617-868-2255, harvestcambridge.com.
Why: Have you ever had fried chicken funnel cake with maple, bacon and powdered sugar? Didn’t think so.
What to wear: I know it’s tempting, but skip the fairground look and go for a cute dress.
What not to miss: The hot mulled, spiced cider with Bully Boy Boston Rum.
What: Halloween at Lolita Cocina & Tequila Bar
When: Oct. 31, 8 p.m. at the Back Bay location; 9 p.m. at the Fort Point location
Where: 271 Dartmouth St., 617-369-5609; 253 Summer St., 617-369-0931, lolitamexican.com.
Why: It’s not just any shindig, but a Day of the Dead-themed Halloween party.
What to wear: Your best costume, from wherever you find inspiration.
What not to miss: Small bites at the bar, festive cocktails and live entertainment till closing.
