Carsen Edwards ignites, Celtics beat Cavs in preseason finale
CLEVELAND — Robert Williams and Carsen Edwards were both in the locker room in the first quarter, the former after taking a Kevin Love elbow to the head and the latter with a bloody nose.
But in the exhibition season finale, with virtually every rotational player back in Boston, attrition was a theme in the Celtics’ 118-95 win over Cleveland – an exhibition finale in front of a third-filled arena where even Tacko Fall heard a few boos upon checking in.
Edwards returned and needed just a little time to reach maximum heat in a 30-point performance – highlighted by the combo guard’s ability to shoot 8-for-9 from downtown in the third quarter, including four straight bombs over the first 2:36. Overall he scored 26 points in nine third quarter minutes before taking a seat for the night.
Fellow rookie Tremont Waters also took advantage of the expanded stage with a 24-point, three-trey, seven-assist performance. Javonte Green hit the lanes and, with the help of some slick feeds from Waters, added 16 points.
Rob Williams didn’t return, and will be reevaluated by the Celtics’ medical staff today.
