Burlington woman charged in Stoneham hit-and-run

A 30-year-old Burlington woman is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday on charges she fled the scene of a crash in Stoneham in which her vehicle struck and injured four teenagers before she honked her horn and sped away.

Prosecutors also accuse Stephanie DeTomasi of attempting to hide her involvement in the crash.

DeTomasi is being summonsed into Woburn District Court to face charges of leaving the scene of personal injury, destruction of evidence, leaving the scene of property damage, negligent operation and speeding, according to a statement from the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors and Stoneham Police allege DeTomasi was behind the wheel of a Subaru Legacy that crashed into four kids as they stood at the end of a driveway at Elm Street and MacArthur Road in Stoneham on Oct. 13.

A witness, James McKinnon, said one of the kid’s bikes ended up wedged under the car as the driver honked the horn, struck McKinnon’s wife’s car, backed up and then took off on Elm Street.

“We were all just standing here talking, and then we heard tires screeching, and the car rammed into us,” Vincenzo Guarino, 13, previously told the Herald. “We all thought they were going to keep going after us. It beeped the horn at us and then zoomed down the street.”

“I think it’s really messed up that someone would hit four kids and beep their horn and take off,” another of the kids, Caden Parks-Miller, 13, told the Herald.

All four children were taken to Winchester Hospital and later released. None suffered serious injuries.
