Cops investigate dead body in Roxbury
Boston cops are investigating a death on Maple Street — where residents say they’ve been smelling a pungent odor for days.
Police would only confirm Monday there’s a death investigation. That follows a call for a wellness check just after noon at an apartment on Maple Street in Roxbury — where police reported finding a body.
No information about a suspected cause or manner of death was immediately available.
Officers — some wearing masks as they went in an out of the old brick apartment building near Franklin Park — blocked off Maple Street for hours and then helped the state Office of the Medical Examiner to remove a body.
Residents said the neighborhood is usually quiet, though the cops do have to show up sometimes.
Michelle Colby, who lives on the apartment building’s third floor, said police were probing an apartment on the second floor. She said the place has been reeking at least since Saturday.
“The stink filled the whole apartment,” Colby told the Herald.
Other neighbors who didn’t wish to be identified said a foul smell had been coming in through their back window — near the window of the apartment in question — since Thursday, and flies had started to multiply.
