Boston hits 101 degrees at Logan, setting heat record for June: ‘Extreme Heat Warning’
The city has hit triple digits, as the heat dome blasts the region with brutal conditions.
The thermometer at Boston Logan International Airport showed 101 degrees as of 2:43 p.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service’s Boston office.
The 101-degree reading set the record for the hottest ever June temp in city history. It broke the previous 100-degree June days in 2021, 1952, and 1925.
With the “Extreme Heat Warning,” meteorologists were warning of dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 111 degrees.
The daily record for June 24 was easily smashed. The previous record was 95 degrees in 2013.
Boston EMS on Monday reported a 10% increase in call volume and responded to 17 heat-related incidents. Patients ranged in age from 11 to 84 — many had been working or spending extended time outdoors.
Officials were urging residents to avoid outdoor workouts and activities, take frequent breaks in the shade, and stay hydrated.
“Our Special Operations Division stepped in to support Cataldo Ambulance Service by providing additional on-site coverage at last night’s concert at Fenway Park — and we’ll be back again tonight,” Boston EMS posted on Tuesday. “It was a busy evening: our team treated 24 patients at the ballpark.
“To meet increased demand citywide, we’ve added staffing across all neighborhoods,” Boston EMS added. “Our Supervisors and Special Operations teams are also distributing cold water and Gatorade in the field to keep our members safe. A big thank you to our members who continue to answer the call.”
