Man dies at Park Street Station after making contact with electrified third rail, MBTA police say
A man died Saturday at Park Street Station after he fell into the pit and made contact with the electrified third rail, according to MBTA Transit Police.
The man, who police said appeared to be impaired or “under the influence of some intoxicant,” was unsteady on his feet and standing on a southbound platform around noon when he “stumbled” onto the tracks, according to police.
He was pronounced dead as a result of the contact with the electrified rail, police said.
“Transit Police detectives are investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident and foul play is not suspected,” MBTA Transit Police Superintendent Richard Sullivan said in a statement. “On behalf of the Transit Police and the entire MBTA organization, we offer our most sincere condolences to the decedent’s family and friends.”
