Chris Pratt’s stunt double Tony McFarr found dead in Orlando

ORLANDO, Florida — Tony McFarr, a stuntman known for his work with Chris Pratt and other Hollywood stars, died Monday of undetermined causes, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. He was 47.

Deputies found McFarr nonresponsive at a home in the 1000 block of Golden Cypress Court outside Orlando, where he was pronounced dead. There were no signs of foul play, officials said.

The medical examiner’s office is investigating the cause of death. Officials there could not be reached for comment Thursday.

TMZ first reported the death. A short obituary notice has been posted on Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home’s website.

McFarr’s credits include stunt doubling for Pratt in the 2015 film “Jurassic World,” 2017’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” and 2018’s “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.”

Pratt wrote in an Instagram post that he was “devastated” to hear of the death of his friend and former stunt double. He recalled that McFarr took a “nasty shot” to the head during the title sequence of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” requiring several staples. Despite the blow, he came “right back to work ready to go again.”

“We golfed, drank whiskey, smoked cigars, and spent endless hours on set,” Pratt wrote. “I’ll never forget his toughness. … He was an absolute stud. He was always a gentleman and professional. He’ll be missed. My prayers go out to his friends and family, especially his daughter.”

McFarr did stunts for other blockbuster films, including “Ant-Man and the Wasp,” “Captain America: Civil War,” “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Parts 1 and 2,” and “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.”

His television credits include “Bones,” “Homeland,” “Teen Wolf,” and “The Walking Dead.”

Besides his work in Hollywood, McFarr owned the Orlando-area restaurant Reel Bowls, according to his Linkedin profile.

He grew up on Merritt Island and attended Divine Mercy Catholic School, according to a 2015 Florida Today article.
