Red Sox lineups: David Hamilton to start at shortstop Sunday in place of injured Trevor Story
With Trevor Story out for the foreseeable future, the Red Sox are going to need someone to step up and fill the void at shortstop in his absence.
For today, that job will fall to David Hamilton.
The 26-year-old rookie, who currently ranks as the No. 21 prospect in the Red Sox organization according to MLB Pipeline, will get the start at shortstop for the Red Sox in Sunday’s series finale against the Los Angeles Angels. Hamilton was called up from Triple-A on Saturday and is set to bat ninth as Boston looks to pull out a series victory and finish their 10-game west coast swing on a high note.
Tanner Houck (1-0, 0.00 ERA) will take the mound for the Red Sox against the Angels’ Chase Silseth (0-0, 9.00), and Boston’s lineup will feature Jarren Duran in center field, Tyler O’Neill in left field and Wilyer Abreu in right. Enmanuel Valdez is set to start at second base and rookie Ceddanne Rafaela will come off the bench.
Should the Red Sox win, they’d wrap up the road trip 7-3 and have a chance to return to Boston with a share of first in the AL East, depending on the outcome of Sunday’s Yankees-Blue Jays game.
