Patriots practice: Roster move incoming; DeVante Parker returns
The Patriots will be announcing a roster move by the end of the day.
At practice Monday, defensive lineman Jeremiah Pharms Jr., who is not listed on the team’s roster, was present, while offensive linemen Riley Reiff and James Ferentz (practice squad) were absent. The Patriots have either released Ferentz from the practice squad and signed Pharms, or placed Reiff on injured reserve and added Pharms or another practice squad player to their 53-man roster.
A source told the Herald last week that Pharms would be signing to the practice squad after he was cut Tuesday and passed through waivers Wednesday.
Wide receiver DeVante Parker returned to practice but left early to the Patriots’ upper conditioning field. His participation bears monitoring on Wednesday when the team releases its first injury report ahead of their Week 1 game against Eagles. Parker missed two practices last week. The Herald was told last week that Parker was “fine” and that his injury wasn’t expected to be a long-term issue.
If Parker can’t play Sunday against the Eagles that would mean more potential playing time for a number of players, including wide receivers Kendrick Bourne, Demario Douglas and Kayshon Boutte and tight end Mike Gesicki.
Parker and JuJu Smith-Schuster project as the Patriots’ top wide receivers when healthy.
