Patriots adding defensive depth with practice squad elevation
The Patriots elevated defensive tackle Jeremiah Pharms Jr. from their practice squad Saturday ahead of their Week 4 showdown with the Cowboys.
The Patriots needed additional depth at defensive tackle with Daniel Ekuale on injured reserve and Christian Barmore (knee) and Davon Godchaux (ankle) both questionable to play Sunday.
Pharms, 26, would make his NFL debut if he’s active for Sunday’s game. The 6-foot-3, 300-pound defender first joined the Patriots in July 2022. He spent all of last season on the practice squad.
The second-generation NFL player took a long journey to the NFL from Sacramento City College, San Joaquin Delta College and Friends University to the Champions Indoor Football League’s Wichita Force and the USFL’s Pittsburgh Maulers. Pharms’ father, linebacker Jeremiah Pharms, was drafted in the fifth round of the 2000 NFL Draft by the Browns out of Washington.
The Patriots also have defensive tackles Lawrence Guy and Sam Roberts on their 53-man roster.
