Ticker: Seasonal concerts return to Suffolk Downs; Gas prices jump
A new seasonal outdoor concert spot will be opening at Suffolk Downs in the coming weeks.
The Stage at Suffolk Downs, a 186,000-square-foot venue featuring room for up to 8,500 concertgoers, will be bringing live music to the East Boston hot spot, which has been mostly without entertainment since the last horse race was held in 2019.
Artists Steve Lacy, LCD Soundsystem and boygenius will kick the season off during opening weekend, June 16-18. Tickets are available for Lacy’s Friday concert and LCD Soundsystem’s Saturday show, but supergroup boygenius is sold out on Sunday.
The Bowery Presents, a leading concert promotion and venue management company along the East Coast, is opening up the venue in partnership with Boston-based The HYM Investment Group LLC.
Fans will enjoy the entertainment from the infield of the track.
Gas prices jump
As the long wait for targeted tax relief continues, Massachusetts gas prices are on the rise coming out of Memorial Day weekend.
AAA Massachusetts said Tuesday that the average gas price in Massachusetts of $3.52 per gallon is up 8 cents from last week. Prices are up 3 cents per gallon compared to a month ago, but are down $1.21 per gallon compared to this time last year.
The national gas price average rose 3 cents to $3.57 per gallon, which AAA analysts attributed to higher demand leading into the holiday — the auto group forecasted that Memorial Day road trips would be up 6 percent this year over last year.
“The rise in demand for oil and gasoline is helping to push pump prices higher for now,” said Mary Maguire, AAA Northeast Vice President of Public and Government Affairs.
