Patriots missing CB Marcus Jones, multiple starters at Wednesday practice
FOXBORO — After last weekend’s loss to Cincinnati, Patriots players were off for two straight days before they reported for meetings and treatment on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, suited up for their first practice of the week, it appears that rest did them little good.
Cornerbacks Jalen Mills, Marcus Jones and Jack Jones were all missing, as were tight end Jonnu Smith, wide receiver DeVante Parker and offensive tackle Yodny Cajuste. Mills, Parker and Jack Jones were holdover absences from last week, when they did not play against the Bengals. Parker hasn’t even practiced since getting concussed at Arizona on Dec. 12, when Mills missed his second of four straight games with a groin injury.
It’s unclear why Marcus Jones and Yodny Cajuste, who both played against Cincinnati were absent. Jones spoke to reporters post-game, and said he got the wind knocked out of him after recovering a fourth-quarter fumble and staying down on the ground. The third-round rookie later ripped off a 15-yard screen catch on the offense’s penultimate drive.
Smith did not finish the game and was evaluated for a concussion in the second half.
The Patriots will release their first injury report of the week after 4 p.m. Wednesday.
