High school Stars of the week
DIV. 1
*Any time you shut out a team averaging 50 points a game, the entire St. John’s Prep defense gets the nod as Star of the Week for its effort in a 13-0 win over Springfield Central.
*St. John’s Prep running back Carson Browne got the ball early and often and responded. He carried the ball 38 times for 131 yards and a game-sealing touchdown.
DIV. 2
*Carson Harwood ran for 86 yards and one touchdown, while adding a TD reception as Catholic Memorial defended its title with a 27-7 win over King Philip.
*Freshman Peter Bourque gave Catholic Memorial something to look for in the future as he threw for 76 yards and two touchdowns.
DIV. 3
*Brothers Nathan and Christian Delgado combined to rush for 173 yards and three touchdowns as Wakefield won its first title since 1999 with a 34-28 win over Milton.
*Jack Finnegan kept Milton in the game as he rushed for 131 yards and three touchdowns.
DIV. 4
*Matt Festa threw for 250 yards and two scores, while rushing for 35 yards and four more scores as Duxbury captured the Div. 4 title with a 42-7 win over Grafton.
*Chris Walsh caught five passes for 145 yards and a touchdown in Duxbury’s big win.
DIV. 5
*Alex Carucci rushed for 143 yards and two touchdowns, while throwing for 141 yards and two more scores as North Reading captured the Div. 5 title with a 44-28 win over Shawsheen.
*Will Batten paced the North Reading ground attack as he rushed for 178 yards and two touchdowns.
*Shawsheen wide receiver Mavrick Bourdeau tied a bowl record as he caught 17 passes for 240 yards and two touchdowns.
DIV. 6
*David Brown was a one-man wrecking crew as he rushed for 195 yards and three touchdowns, while adding a TD reception as St. Mary’s took home the Div. 6 title with a 29-8 win over Stoneham.
*Chris Farren was a shining star for Stoneham as he rushed for 122 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries.
*Casey Gallagher rushed for 134 yards and two touchdowns as Bay Path defeated Monty Tech 28-20 in the MVADA Large School Vocational Super Bowl.
DIV. 7/8
*Jamie McNamara ran for 136 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries as West Boylston beat St. Bernard’s 29-6 to win the Div. 7 state championship.
*John Gianibas ran for 188 yards and three touchdowns on 33 carries as Hull carted home the Div. 8 title with a 27-6 win over KIPP
*In the MVADA Small School Vocational Super Bowl, the South Shore defense picked the right time to have its best game of the year. The Vikings limited a high-powered Nashoba Tech offense to 70 yards in a 16-2 win avenging a season-opening loss.
