Patriots reportedly sign OT Conor McDermott off Jets practice squad
The Patriots have signed offensive tackle Conor McDermott off the Jets’ practice squad, according to ESPN.
McDermott’s arrival should help offset the injury loss of Isaiah Wynn, who hurt his foot in the Pats’ win over the Jets on Sunday. Wynn was not present for Tuesday’s practice and is not expected to be available for Thursday night’s game at Minnesota. Wynn started in place of left tackle Trent Brown over the weekend in what Bill Belichick described as a “coaching decision,” while backup Yodny Cajuste started again at right tackle.
McDermott has appeared in two games this season, playing right tackle in Week 3 and left tackle in Week 4. He allowed seven pressures in 53 pass-blocking snaps over those games, per Pro Football Focus, and hasn’t seen an offensive snap since. McDermott, 30, entered the league as a sixth-round pick of the Patriots in 2017.
After getting released in New England as a rookie, the 6-foot-8, 310-pounder spent the next two seasons as a reserve in Buffalo and signed with the Jets in 2019. He remained in New York until Tuesday’s move. McDermott is wearing No. 75 in New England and has filled the roster spot the Pats created when they released backup running back J.J. Taylor on Monday.
