Kanye West wears Pope John Paul II ‘White Lives Matter’ shirt at Yeezy runway show
Kanye West’s latest stunt raised hell.
The self-proclaimed “greatest artist that God ever created” on Monday wore a T-shirt with an image of Pope John Paul II and the words “WHITE LIVES MATTER” emblazoned on the back.
After walking the runway for Demna’s Balenciaga collection during Paris Fashion Week Monday, West presented his own Yzy Szn 9 fashion event.
His black T-shirt had the words “Seguiremos Tu Ejemplo,” which translate to “We Will Follow Your Example,” under the photo of the Pope.
“White Lives Matter” is categorized by the Anti-Defamation League as a “hate slogan” that is a symbol used by white supremacist groups including the Ku Klux Klan and the Aryan Renaissance Society.
Joining in on the racially-charged, tone-deaf misstep wasconservative pundit Candace Owens, who also adorned a white version of the shirt with the same message on the back.
The BLEXIT founder posted an image of her and the billionaire hip-hop star holding hands with their backs facing the camera.
West and Candace, both who are parents of biracial children, have become polarizing figures within the Black community for their political views and associations.
The 45-year-old Chicago-reared Atlanta native — also known as Ye — previously caused controversy for promoting former President Donald Trump’s divisive “Make America Great Again” slogan, and also appearing on a wild “TMZ Live” interview with Owens in 2018. He also clashed with film producer Van Lathan after implying slavery was a choice. He later attempted to walk back that remark.
West caused a stir over the summer for selling his new line of clothing out of what appeared to be garbage bags, and then announcing in September he was ending his partnership with Gap.
Supermodel Naomi Campbell also walked in the Yzy Szn 9 runway show that was streamed on YouTube Monday.
