Patriots have engaged in trade talks involving OT Isaiah Wynn, per report

The Patriots have engaged in trade talks involving offensive tackle Isaiah Wynn, according to a report from Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer.

Wynn is entering the final year of his rookie contract, a fifth-year option worth $10.4 million guaranteed that the team picked up last season.

Wrote Breer: “The one guy I know definitively that they’ve talked with other teams on is Isaiah Wynn, their first-round pick from 2018. Wynn, though, is on a $10.4 million fifth-year option, which has made it tough to move a guy who, four years after he was drafted, is still seen as a tackle/guard tweener.”

The Patriots moved Wynn, their starting left tackle the past three seasons, to the right side this spring and replaced him with Trent Brown. Wynn has endured an up-and-down training camp at his new position, and recently returned from an injury during Monday’s team practice in Las Vegas. According to reporters, Wynn wore a red, non-contact jersey.

The 6-foot-3, 310-pounder did not participate in joint practices with the Panthers last week and missed last Friday’s 20-10 preseason win over Carolina. In his absence, the Pats have rolled out backups Justin Herron and Yodny Cajuste and moved starting right guard Mike Onwenu to tackle, where he played as a rookie.

Herron also returned to practice Monday after dealing with a minor injury. The Patriots will return to the field for the first of two joint practices with the Raiders on Tuesday.
