Video: Biden announcement on climate change
President Biden on Wednesday announced a slate of new climate initiatives during a visit to the site of a former coal plant at Brayton Point in Somerset.
Wednesday’s executive actions include new initiatives to bolster the domestic offshore wind industry as well as a continuation of efforts to help communities cope with soaring temperatures through programs administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Department of Health and Human Services and other agencies, according to fact sheet distributed by the White House before Biden’s remarks.
Among the initiatives, Biden said the federal government would open up more than 700,000 acres in the Gulf of Mexico for wind development, an area large enough to provide power to 3 million homes.
