Residents of 13 apartments displaced by huge Mattapan fire

Boston firefighters battled a fire in a three-story apartment building in Mattapan Thursday afternoon which displaced residents of 13 apartments.

The first report of the fire at 1333 Blue Hill Avenue came in at 1:18 p.m. Thursday, and continued to strike more alarms over the next hour. The Boston Fire Department tweeted just before 1:50 p.m. that “thick black smoke” was filling the neighborhood as they deployed multiple deck guns to battle the blaze.

“Companies did a great job by attacking the fire aggressively inside and out, helping to keep the fire contained to the 3rd floor,” the Boston Fire Department tweeted at 6:19 p.m. after having fought the fire for hours. They added that the roof collapsed in the heavy fire.
