Patriots place linemen Isaiah Wynn and Michael Onwenu on COVID-19 list
The Patriots have placed starting offensive linemen Michael Onwenu and Isaiah Wynn on the COVID-19 list, per the league wire.
The two make up the left side of the line protecting rookie quarterback Mac Jones.
If the players are vaccinated, there is a chance they could play Sunday in Houston. If not, the duo won’t be available.
As it is, both Onwenu and Wynn struggled during Sunday night’s loss to the Buccaneers. Starting left guard Onwenu was benched in favor of Ted Karras after committing two costly holding penalties.
The right side has also had issues protecting Jones with Trent Brown missing time with a calf injury. So offensive line coach Carmen Bricillo might have to do some scrambling for the Texans game.
If Brown returns, he could either play left or right tackle. Yodny Cajuste could also be involved in the solution, while Karras is the likely choice at left guard, should Onwenu not be able to play.
Jones was sacked four times against the Bucs in Sunday night’s loss. The last two games alone, he’s been hit 23 times. He’s been sacked 10 times overall.
ESPN’s Field Yates was the first to report the news.
