Police investigating report of attempted kidnapping of a child in East Boston
Boston police have issued a community alert about a possible attempted kidnapping of a 10-year-old boy.
Shortly after 7 a.m. on Wednesday, the boy was walking to school in the area of Sumner Street in East Boston, where he was approached by an unidentified suspect, he told police.
The child said the suspect was passing by in a gray minivan when he said something to the boy before stopping and getting out of vehicle, according to police. The boy told detectives the suspect tried to grab him by his shoulders, but he was able to break free and run away.
The victim described the suspect as a heavy-set white man, short in stature, with gray hair and a shadowed beard, wearing a black jacket and gray sweatpants, police said.
Detectives assigned to East Boston are urging anyone with information about the incident to call (617) 343-4234.
