Massachusetts inches toward 4 million fully vaxxed people, 116 new virus cases reported
More than 30,000 coronavirus vaccine doses were administered in Massachusetts during the most recent day of vax data on Wednesday, as the state is set to eclipse 3.9 million fully vaxxed people in the next day.
Meanwhile, state health officials on Wednesday reported five more virus deaths and 116 new cases. The state’s estimated number of active infections keeps going down, and the seven-day average of 109 daily cases is the lowest of the pandemic.
Almost 8.2 million total vax doses have been given since the start of the state’s rollout, according to the state Department of Public Health’s daily vaccination report on Wednesday.
The grand total of nearly 8.2 million breaks down to almost 4.3 million people who have received at least one dose of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine; more than 3.6 million people who have received both doses of Pfizer or Moderna; and 260,305 people who have received the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
Those figures represent an increase of 30,550 doses from Tuesday’s total.
Overall, 3,892,971 people in Massachusetts have been fully vaccinated. The pace of the vax rollout has slowed down considerably, but the state is on track to hit its goal of 4.1 million fully vaxxed people this month.
More than 9.3 million doses have been shipped to the Bay State, and more than 87% of total doses shipped to the state have been administered.
After the state’s 116 new virus cases on Wednesday, the number of estimated active cases across the state is now 3,480 cases — a significant drop from 36,775 cases in April. Cases have been plummeting amid the vax rollout.
Wednesday’s five new virus deaths bring the state’s total recorded death toll to 17,922. The seven-day average of new deaths is down to four, the lowest rate of the pandemic.
Statewide hospitalizations have also been dropping. Hospitalizations on Wednesday held steady at a total of 173 patients. There are 57 patients in the ICU, and 29 patients are intubated.
