Boston public-safety unions to hold mayoral forum moderated by Herald

Boston’s public safety unions will hold a mayoral forum Thursday afternoon moderated by a Herald reporter.

The virtual forum, which will be streamed on YouTube, is hosted by the Boston Police Patrolmen’s Union, the Boston Police Detectives Benevolent Society, the Boston Police Superior Officers Federation, the Massachusetts Association of Minority Law Enforcement Officers, the Boston EMS Union and the Boston Fire Fighters Local 718.

Herald City Hall reporter Sean Cotter will moderate the event, which will take place at 4 p.m. and run approximately two hours.

Four of the six mayoral candidates have said they will participate: former city economic development chief John Barros, City Councilors Annissa Essaibi-George and Michelle Wu and state Rep. Jon Santiago.

City Councilor Andrea Campbell, who’s been critical of the department and the largest police union, has said she won’t attend. It’s unclear whether Acting Mayor Kim Janey will be present.
