Anatomy of an accused serial rapist in Boston
The harrowing indictments against Alvin Campbell list the bogus rideshare driver as a “habitual criminal” — an understatement, if he’s found guilty of the nine rapes he’s now accused of committing.
The pages of court records say the 39-year-old took video of his alleged female victims “nude or partially nude” without consent. He’s also cited for intending to keep those recordings secret, but prosecutors have them now.
It’s all part of a massive case being built against a Boston native accused of preying on drunk women needing a ride home after a night out on the town. Here is a summary of those court records:
GUN CONVICTIONS: April 2000, sentenced to three to five years in jail for armed assault with intent to rob and assault and battery; October 2006, being a felon in possession of a firearm, four-plus year sentence; August 2014, seven-year sentence for carrying a firearm without a license.
FEB. 9, 2017: Accused of “willfully” videotaping his alleged victim “nude or partially nude” and assault with intent to commit rape and “did commit rape.”
APRIL 3, 2017: Again took video of an alleged victim without her knowing or consent “nude or partially nude” with intent to commit rape and “did commit rape.”
MAY 21, 2017: Aggravated rape, indecent assault and battery and did “forcibly confine or imprison” her.
DEC. 21, 2017: Took video and assaulted his alleged victim with “intent to commit rape; and did commit rape.”
JUNE 17, 2018: Did “willfully videotape … while exiting a motor vehicle” while the alleged victim was “nude or partially nude” and did “commit rape.”
DEC. 6 & 7 2018: Rape and kidnapping “forcibly” confining “a woman known to the Commonwealth against her will.”
SEPT 29, 2019: Did video and/or “electronically surveil” in bedroom the alleged victim who was “nude or partially nude” and without consent and “did commit rape.”
NOV. 23, 2019: An aggravated rape charge along with being accused of confinement or imprisonment of his alleged victim that he “did commit aggravated rape upon.”
DECEMBER, 2019: Accused of kidnapping and raping a woman he picked up near North Station.
Campbell, of Cumberland, R.I., has been locked up since his January 2020 arrest for the most recent alleged attack. He has pleaded not guilty. He is the brother of City Councilor and mayoral candidate Andrea Campbell.
When Alvin Campbell was arraigned last year, his defense attorney withdrew himself from the case after a prosecutor read the sickening details of the police reports.
At that arraignment, Campbell was accused of impersonating a ride-share driver to convince a woman to get into his car near North Station. He’s pleaded not guilty to kidnapping and raping the woman.
The cops nabbed Campbell as he was talking on his phone, which they quickly got a search warrant for. That, a prosecutor said, is how authorities realized the true horrors of the case: Campbell had recorded videos of eight different women he’d sexually assaulted, the prosecution says.
A prosecutor described a pattern of Campbell often misrepresenting himself — as a ride-share driver, or bar bouncer — and then finding blackout-drunk women to prey upon.
