33,175 more coronavirus vaccine shots given in Massachusetts as state eases restrictions
More than 33,000 coronavirus vaccine doses were given in Massachusetts during the most recent day of vaccine data, while officials also reported 26 new virus deaths and 1,248 new cases as the state eased business restrictions on Monday.
The state Department of Public Health’s daily vaccination report on Monday showed 1,769,652 total doses have been administered — 1,222,591 people who have received at least one dose and 547,061 people who have received both doses of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine.
That’s a daily increase of 33,175 doses from Sunday’s report. The previous daily vaccinations were 65,284 doses; 48,640 doses; 56,252 doses; and 47,820 doses.
More than 2 million doses have been shipped to the Bay State, and more than 86% of total doses shipped to the state have been administered.
After Monday’s tally of 1,248 new virus cases, the seven-day average of confirmed cases is now 1,280 cases, a decline from 6,241 cases in the first week of January.
The state’s count of estimated active cases has dropped to 30,486, significantly down from 98,750 cases at the start of the year.
Monday’s 26 new virus deaths bring the state’s total recorded death toll to 16,144. The seven-day average of daily deaths is now 36, down from 77 daily deaths a few weeks ago. That figure peaked at 175 daily deaths in late April.
Statewide hospitalizations have been plummeting but ticked up on Monday. Hospitalizations on Monday went up by 28 patients, bringing the total to 788 patients. Monday was the first day that the hospitalization count rose since Feb. 8.
The seven-day average of the number of people hospitalized for COVID-19 has declined from 2,347 patients at the start of January to an average of 829 patients now.
Of the state’s 16,144 total deaths from the virus, 8,586 have been in long-term care facilities.
The U.S. virus death toll surpassed 500,000 last week. The 514,216 total U.S. deaths as of Monday afternoon is the highest death tally in the world.
