Since it’s safer to be outside, why not go for a plunge?
A few brave souls did just that at the M Street beach in South Boston Friday in what has become a New Year’s tradition.
But they may be thankful for the weather they encountered on Friday as a cool day in the mid 30s on Saturday will give way to about an inch of snow or sleet overnight into Saturday. The winter weather advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.
Expect total snow accumulations of up to 2 inches and ice accumulations of around one tenth of an inch, but mostly in central, eastern, northeastern and western Massachusetts, the weather service reports. Greater Boston will see rain.
More rain and snow is expected late Sunday into Monday. For now, watch out for slippery conditions for the next few days.
