Massachusetts politicians ready to move forward with Joe Biden, say good riddance to Trump
Bay State politicians offered words of hope and congratulations — in most cases — to President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris on their Inauguration Day.
“The inauguration … marks a historic, critical transition from an administration defined by cruelty, corruption, and callousness to one of empathy, compassion and grace,” U.S. Rep. Ayanna Pressley said.
Attorney General Maura Healey said after “four years fighting” the Trump administration, “today, we turn a new chapter.”
“Not only do we need to work together to clean up the devastation the Trump Administration brought on this country, but we must build anew,” Healey said in a statement to the Herald.
Senate President Karen Spilka, D-Ashland, tweeted about her “overwhelming emotions of hope, resiliency and faith in our democracy and country” and “Let the rebuilding begin!!”

Massachusetts Speaker of the House Ronald Mariano, D-Quincy, offered a short and sweet “we stand with you” to the freshly minted president and vice president on Twitter.

State Republican Party Chairman Jim Lyons penned a thank-you letter to former President Donald Trump and told the Herald he looks forward to “many opportunities locally for Republicans to engage and get into local office” created by the “radical left policies” coming from Biden and Harris.
State Democratic Party Chairman Gus Bickford said he feels “secure, frankly, with people who we can trust and as we don’t have to worry about how many lies they’re going to say each day.”
Boston Mayor Martin Walsh, Biden’s Labor nominee, attended the inauguration.
“Honored, moved, and so proud to witness this historic inauguration and moment of healing for our nation,” he tweeted.

Boston City Council President Kim Janey, who’s poised to become the city’s first Black and female chief executive as acting mayor if Walsh leaves, tweeted, “America made history with the inauguration of Vice President Kamala Harris — history that allows little girls of color to see themselves in their leaders.”
