Mars Warns Avoiders by Holiday Mathis

Being too attached to the way we want things to be can keep us from seeing how things are. This is why it sometimes takes people time to accept that what is happening is usually a symptom of reality and not some anomaly that can be easily ignored, worked around or forgotten. A lunar square to Mars warns against avoidant behavior.
ARIES (March 21-April 19). Trying to push something out of your mind is a sure way to drain your willpower quickly. You’ll have greater wells of self-control when you face what’s going on and create some if/then strategies.
TAURUS (April 20-May 20). Before making a purchase, assess what you have. By employing a little forethought, you’ll save money. Bonus: It’s a way of remembering and being accountable for past decisions.
GEMINI (May 21-June 21). Ignorance is sometimes unavoidable, as no one is born knowing everything. Assume that people really can learn if incentivized properly and taught effectively.
CANCER (June 22-July 22). Among your most sincere core beliefs is the idea that each person is great in their own way. Therefore, it is often inappropriate to make comparisons or value one person’s efforts while devaluing the efforts of another.
LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). All people are both equal and unique and there was never a time when you believed otherwise. Money and status may change the power dynamics of a situation, but they don’t change the value of any person.
VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). You know you can make lives better, but you don’t know how you’re going to do it. That’s the fun part. You’ll brainstorm and create until you come up with the sort of care that only you can give.
LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). One problem is tied to another, and luckily the solution is similarly tied. As naturalist John Muir said, “When we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the universe.”
SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). Pride goeth before the fall. Then again, “the fall” is an inevitability of life that could just as easily follow shame, humility, cheer or neutrality. You may as well be proud of yourself.
SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). The ones who love you have already seen you through many incarnations in this lifetime and are happy with each different version that comes along. You afford the same grace to them.
CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). You can avoid trouble by making it a policy not to loan money. Give it instead, if you are so moved. Furthermore, when you do a job, try to get paid upfront.
AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). You are openhearted and curious. Once you decide what you want to do, you’ll quickly gather up everything you need to know to make it happen.
PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). When you love someone, you don’t need a lot of reasons for it, although it’s fun to think about what they are. Relatedly, enjoy the good mood you fall into, as unfounded as it may be.
TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (April 23). This year calls up your most open, ebullient and lucky self. In at least three instances, you will seem able to conjure just what you need to solve a problem or create an exciting new circumstance. You’ll become more powerful as you learn methods of serving and leading. You’ll be an invaluable asset to a close-knit crew. Virgo and Gemini adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 3, 50, 22, 37 and 11.
ASTROLOGICAL QUESTION: More on yesterday’s question, “What is your point of view on the recent rise of witch culture? What is a witch? Can a man be a witch? Are witches aligned with the devil? What is a spell exactly? Do you do them? If so, do they work?”
In the modern sense, a witch is someone who uses one or more of the following to affect outcomes: magic rituals, spells, invocations, communications to invisible realms and magic tools such as wands, cards, bones, crystals, herbs and the like.
Most modern witches pride themselves on an individualized practice, so it is impossible to say witches align themselves with any one idea or entity. Some call on the power of trees, some identify with animals, some with angels and others with darker forces, although the latter seems to be less common in the current popularized culture of witches.
Yes, a man can be a witch and many are.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: The world’s biggest little movie star set many standards (like early start-times on a set) continued by Hollywood today. Shirley Temple tap-danced into the hearts of millions, bringing hope and entertainment at a war-torn time in history. The curly-topped Taurus had four natal luminaries in Aries, the sign of youth, vitality and the warrior spirit. Her Neptune, the dream planet, was in entertaining Leo.
